6^TH GRADE ISSMA SOLO & ENSEMBLE CONTEST 2012

ISSMA (Indiana State School Music Association) Solo & Ensemble Contest takes place at Crown Point High School on February 11, 2012 and is an opportunity for students to play for a music judge and receive comments and a rating. 6^th graders will not be playing solos this year (they will have the opportunity next year), but they will be playing in a small group.

Students will be playing in ONE of the following groups:

GROUP 6A plays at 9:10 in room C119 (students will be finished by 9:30)

GROUP 6B plays at 9:42 in room C119 (students will be finished by 10:00)

There will be a bus provided from Highland to Crown Point. Parents must arrange for their children to be picked up immediately following (after medals are passed out)

This event is a required grade for orchestra.

ISSMA INFORMATION

Indiana State School Music Association's (ISSMA) solo and ensemble competition is just around the corner. It is now time to prepare, choose music, and focus rehearsal time and performances. ISSMA solo and ensemble competition gives students (grades 6-12) an opportunity to perform music and be critiqued. With this critique, a ranking will be given for your performance. If you receive a superior or excellent ranking, you receive a gold or silver medallion, respectively. If you enter in Group I and receive a superior rating, you qualify to participate at the state level competition. High school students may enter in Group I, II, or III. Middle School students may enter in Group II, III, IV, or V. Elementary school students may enter in group IV or V. If you enter in Group I, you must play a required song from the Indiana required solo listing. I have a copy of this list, so please ask if you wish to enter in this Group. If you wish to enter in Group II, III, IV, or V, then you choose your own literature. The music you choose must be approved by me (no popular music--Disney, rock music, etc.).

*DUETS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT I.S.S.M.A. COMPETITION*

The competition will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Crown Point High School. The times will be announced once I have received the information. The fees are as follows:

ONE SOLO ENTRY OR ENSEMBLE ENTRY IS COVERED BY YOUR FAIR SHARE FEE (If you have not paid your Fair Share Fee, it must be submitted with your entry form)
Additional Entries: $12 for solos and $6 per person per ensemble

If you are not entering Group I, you DO NOT need to know the name of your piece at this time but you will need to see me about entering the correct Group. All of this must be completed by Wednesday, November 23, 2011.
